DNA testing through Innovis      NOW ONLY £20 + VAT PER SAMPLE!

Cattle producers may opt for a DNA test to prove the parentage (dam) of a calf if they have been refused a passport for the calf because of a late registration.

Producers should contact BCMS first so that a database check can be run - the dam needs to be alive for the DNA test and appeal to be processed. BCMS will then send a DNA test form with details of the calf and dam.

A vet needs to collect the samples from the calf and dam. Innovis prefer hair samples as they are easy to collect, transport and store and can be used for other DNA tests in the future.

Producers (or vets) need to contact Innovis for the test submission forms and sample collectors. When the samples and submission form are sent to Innovis, the producer should keep a copy of the BCMS DNA test form.

Innovis will send results of the DNA Parentage Verification to the producer who should then send the results and the BCMS DNA test form back to BCMS. There is no guarantee that a passport will be issued.

The cost of the DNA test is £20 + VAT per sample.
