Sample Collection and Packaging
Hair Sample Collection
1. Check the Animal Identification
2. Write the Animal Identification on the Sample Collector in the Space Provided
3. Pull a pencil thickness tuft of hair from the switch of the animal's tail making sure the hair roots (follicles) are attached
4. Open the Hair Sample Collector and peel off and discard the blue coloured backing paper
5. Place the hair roots in the middle of the Sample Collector and seal by pressing the adhesive firmly over the sample
6. Trim the excess hair outside the collector
7. The hair Sample Collector is ready to be sent to be tested
8. Complete the Submission Form, entering all the animal's details, number of samples enclosed and tests required
9. Place the Sample Collectors and completed forms in an envelope and post to:

Important
- please ensure that the collected hair is dry and free of dirt, dung and plant material
- make sure that the hairs have follicles (root) attached
- we require at least 20 visible hair follicles for DNA analysis
- ensure that the hair follicles are completely enclosed within the collector
How to Package Semen Straws
1. Record the complete animal ID on the Sample Collector
2. Open the Sample Collector and place the thawed semen straw onto the Collector
3. Peel off and discard the blue backing paper from the clear upper adhesive sheet. Fold the clear sheet over the straw, sticking it to the collector. This provides each sample with a unique barcode identity.
4. Cover the ends of the semen straws with tape to prevent leakage
5. Place each straw/ collector into an individual plastic bag eg. zip lock
6. Tape all of these samples in between two pieces of stiff cardboard and place into an addressed envelope with the Submission Form and send to:
