The FECPAK System for Worm Control in cattle

Good parasite management starts with good information. FECPAK enables you to monitor worm burdens on a number of groups of cattle quickly, cost effectively and without hassle.

By frequently monitoring faecal egg counts (FEC) in your herd, you can detect problems before potential production losses occur. Regular monitoring also means that less time and money is needed for worm control without compromising production.

Regular FEC in conjunction with your existing farm management practices such as weighing and stock observation also allows you to make more accurate drench decisions and help delay the development of drench resistance in your herd.

FECPAK – a simple on-farm system for FEC in cattle

FECPAK allows farmers, veterinarians or consultants to do “on the spot” parasite assessments. FECPAK has been designed to be used on–farm and is a customized, purpose-built product containing all of the equipment and information needed for doing quick and accurate FEC.

The FECPAK system is simple to use and tests take around 15 minutes to complete. The FECPAK system for cattle has been specially developed to achieve a higher level of test sensitivity (10 eggs per gram) compared to other systems, offering you reduced variability and better results.

Save on drench and wormer treatments by using FECPAK on your cattle

Assuming that:

  • By using FEC over a season 2 whole wormer treatments per young stock are avoided.
  • Average no cattle as young stock = 50

Then

  • If using Moxidectin Injection @ £2.38 / injection (assuming 400 kg beast)
    you save £4.76/ animal = £238.00*
  • If using Ivermectin Pour – On @ £2.96 / dose (assuming 400 kg beast)
    you save £5.92 / animal = £296.00*

FECPAK has also saved one client with beef cattle £700.00* in his first year by changing from routine bolus treatment @ £6-10/head to monitoring FEC throughout summer and treating as and when needed with a cheaper one-off drench.
