Innovis Aberfield crossbred ewes: Measured performance
Innovis Aberfield crossbred ewe lambs offer commercial lamb producers the opportunity to maintain or increase production outputs from prolific but compact ewes that are capable of rearing twins off grass.
The Aberfield crossbred is derived from a nucleus flock created from the top performing Bluefaced Leicester rams from sire referenced recorded flocks and crossed with specific Texel lines. With a selection rate of 25%, only the best performing animals are retained for breeding. The nucleus flock is lambed outdoors with breeding objectives focused to complement the flocks that produce our Aberfield crossbred ewe lambs.
The Aberfield crossbred ewe offers you:
- A lambing percentage of 180% from a relatively low cost base compared to traditional crossbreds
- The ability to lamb outdoors without assistance, to mother twins with a plentiful supply of milk.
- Fast growth rates in lambs off grass with finished lambs in the top carcass specification and yield
- Robust ewes – able withstand disease (reducing the need for treatment) and to achieve at least 5 lambing within the flock.
Hardier and more compact, the Aberfield crossbred will not require the high level of inputs usually associated with traditional crossbreds and can rear 19kg finished lambs entirely off grass.
Meeting retail requirements
Lambs from Aberfield crossbred ewes can finish faster and achieve top grades for carcass specification and meat yield. Innovis also supply Terminal sires which are carefully selected for growth and conformation for use over Aberfield crossbred ewes and ewe lambs.
Quality and traceability
Aberfield crossbred ewe lambs are reared on contract to specified target criteria and we try to match your requirements for size and type with ewe lambs from one or two of our dedicated producers. Health audits also enable us to match the health profile of your commercial flock with that of your ewe lamb producer. We aim to establish a reliable and long-term supply of Aberfield ewe lambs from the same producer year on year.
