Innovis Aberfield
A composite line based on British Texel and Bluefaced Leicester breeding and selected intensively for performance, the Aberfield breeding programme is focused firmly on productivity in a commercial environment.
Innovis has selected the top performing Bluefaced Leicester rams from sire-referenced recorded flocks and crossed with the most prolific Texel lines to create the original Aberfield nucleus base.
The Aberfield nucleus flock is lambed outdoors with breeding objectives focused to complement the flocks that are contracted to produce the Aberfield crossbred ewe lambs.
- Excellent maternal traits
- MyoMAX and carcass quality
- Resistance to roundworms and lameness
- High growth rates - nucleus lambs weighed at birth, 8-weeks, 16-week weaning and 21 weeks of age.
- All lambs are ultrasonically scanned for muscle depth
- A proportion of lambs sent through for CT whole body scanning to measure pelvic diameter and muscle density.
Aberfield rams will be available for contract production in 2010.
